What really controls our destiny

For my English class this year, we made a blog pertaining to the book Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Each post had a different focus. The focus of the first post was analyzing a quote from an existential philosopher- which seems to be a major theme of this school year. I feel like every year in high school there's a solid theme and way of thinking and the next school year you're hit with a new theme.
Well anyways, my quote that I chose to analyze for my first blog post was “Man acts as though he were the shaper and master of language, while in fact language remains the master of man.” ― Martin Heidegger
Language being a big part of Heidegger’s life as a writer, he must have come to the realization that there are many misconceptions in life, man being the master of language being one of them. The meaning of words is shaped by the context, but perhaps this is just another misconception. Instead, the words shape the context. What I like about this quote is the vulnerability of it. People have a desire for power and control, but this quote flips that idea and makes it so that influences have more power over us humans than we realize. This idea isn’t limited to language and can also relate to other things like our own destiny, which makes it important for our world. We’re often told that our lives are in our own hands, but perhaps the outside world is in more control of our destiny than we realize. It is therefore important that we are more aware of our environment and influences.
One thing in my life that I've always enjoyed is writing. However, it's not something I wish to pursue, or so I thought. Most of my world consists of school. Two of my classes being the only English class that does the blog assignment and the other being Intro to Business where an ad for this wix website came on before watching shark tank. You see, after being introduced to the blog assignment, I thought having my own personal blog would be fun. Then I found wix.com in my business class. Is it a coincidence, or is it the world's way of trying to tell me something? Perhaps this is my analysis of Heidegger's quote coming to life. Our environment does have more control of our destiny than we realize. Would I have ever thought of starting a blog of my own having not been in those two classes? TBD. But here I am, writing this blog post. Which brings us to now; welcome to Polkaboutthat! So let me leave you with this: are you happy where you are in life right now knowing it will impact your destiny? If not, it's not too late to change.
